TRANSFORM SPACES, BRINGING DREAMS TO LIFE
Work from the series «Fault Line II», 2025
340 USD
«Fault Line» was photographed in the early morning on the banks of the Volga. In the frame, a sandy road recedes toward a dark mass of trees, while a deep, uneven crack runs through its centre. The nude body is integrated into this space as part of the landscape: exposed, yet not dissolved within it. The black-and-white treatment removes colour, leaving only tone, the texture of the sand, the density of the forest, and the movement of the line. The fault cuts through the space of the image, giving it direction and tension. The title of the series refers to a tension that takes shape as a single line. For Nadezhda Filippova, this series is connected to her first experience of photographing the nude body in a natural environment; however, the biographical impulse remains outside direct narration. The image operates through form: the scale of the road, the darkness of the forest, the openness of the body, and the pause between movement and stillness. «Fault Line» translates tension into the realm of form, where body, landscape, and line come together as a complete image.

Nadezhda Filippova
Nadezhda Filippova is a photographer. She was born in the village of Polivanovo, Ulyanovsk Region, and lives and works in Ulyanovsk. She came to photography as a teenager, gradually turning the camera into a way of observing and speaking about states that are difficult to express directly. Her practice is shaped by psychological portraiture, bodily presence, and attentive contact with the person in front of the camera. Nadezhda is drawn to images in which a person no longer holds on to a familiar self-image, but appears through gaze, gesture, pause, and the position of the body. Fabric, skin, hands, and tactile details become an important part of her visual language, allowing an inner state to take visible form. At the center of her artistic inquiry are human vulnerability and a space of trust. Nadezhda approaches portraiture not as a surface likeness, but as a way to come closer to what usually remains hidden: tension, silence, exposure, and a moment of inner presence. Her key themes are the human state in the present moment, imperfection, bodily presence, and inner dialogue. Her photographs explore the point where external form gives way to inner movement, and the image ceases to be a form of protection and becomes a way of appearing.
